Fluted Alabaster Wall Sconce

Alabaster is dense enough to read as solid rock and translucent enough to let light through it. Switched off, this is a fluted panel of pale veined stone on the wall. Switched on, the mineral seams inside it light up amber and the whole piece glows from within rather than shining outward.

The vertical ribs catch the light at different angles, so the face breaks into a series of soft highlights instead of one flat glare. At 30cm tall, 10cm wide and projecting just 5cm, it is a compact piece rather than an oversized one, which is what lets it work on a narrow wall, a doorway return, or as a flanking pair either side of a console.

Because each panel is cut from natural stone, the veining, density and warmth of the glow differ from piece to piece. If you order two, expect a related pair rather than an identical one. That variation is the material doing what it has done since antiquity.
