Brass Wall Sconce with Tapered Shade

A bedside light that gives the table back.

Mounted on the wall, it lights the pillow and the page without taking up the surface below. The tapered fabric shade softens the bulb, washing warm light up the wall behind it and spilling it down over whatever sits beneath, so the room reads warm rather than simply lit.

The stem carries on past the round wall plate and finishes in a turned finial, which gives the fitting a long vertical line and keeps it from reading as a squat fixture stuck to the wall. It works as a pair either side of a bed, singly beside a mirror, or repeated down a hallway.

It takes a standard E27 bulb, which is worth knowing: the fitting itself is not dimmable, but fitting a dimmable or smart bulb gives you control over both brightness and warmth.
